Why WordPress?

November 29, 2008

wordpressSearch engines love blogs. They’re basically big piles of keywords that help search engines better understand what your site is about. This generally helps improve your ranking in search results.

The trouble is, most “blogs” are not visually appealing. They’re typically lengthy pages of articles posted in chronological order with lots of vertical scrolling.

The beauties of WordPress are many, but the most important to us are: first, that it is open source, meaning there is no charge to use the code, which is broadly supported; and, secondly, that it is extremely flexible for designers using cascading style sheets. With WordPress, we can create a blog that fully integrates into the design of an existing site. Or, we can build a complete site using the content management capabilities of WordPress to integrate blog-like functions within a custom design. This website is itself an example of a custom WordPress installation, built using Avatar Exploitable, a WordPress theme we designed.
